Planned construction of a giant Shell refinery threatened to doom this early house, which then stood in a scenic spot along Road 493 on Thoroughfare Neck near Taylors Bridge, overlooking a marsh and surrounded by centuries-old trees. Sharp paid to move the building to Odessa. The foreman supervising the difficult, sixteen-mile overland trip had a nervous breakdown, but the house arrived safely. The long, one-and-a-half story gambrel-roofed form is a common Eastern Shore type. Its structure is frame with brick nogging, covered by wide, irregular weatherboards. A change in the weatherboarding from matched to overlapping suggests that two houses were joined. Inside, the paneled end-wall is notable. A big fireplace long served as the Winterthur hearth-cooking site.
