Next door to the Tong Wo Society Hall, the Wo On store adds another delightful surprise to the relatively isolated rural area adjoining Halawa Gulch. Rising up from the street with its dressed lava-rock and concrete steps, this building features a centered loggia with a jigsaw balustrade and scrollwork brackets. Built by Mr. Takahashi, this general merchandise store was owned and operated by Luke Ngawk until his death in 1956. The store was on the first floor, while Mr. and Mrs. Luke and their thirteen children lived upstairs.
