The Matsui building's distinctive, shingled, step-gabled false front visually anchors the intersection of Baldwin and Makawao avenues. Here the Matsui family repaired watches and sold groceries, candies, magazines, and dry goods. The family also operated a service station in the single-story building adjoining the store.
