Gerald Haas, the first owner of this house, built it from lumber and precut parts brought by wagon from Des Moines. The house is an excellent example of a Greek Revival dwelling modified by Italianate detailing. The entrance porch of this two-story clapboard house is vigorously Greek; its two columns are fluted and of the Ionic order, the porch's entablature cornice has dentils, and the end posts of the balustrade around the roof are
