Lewis and Clark Monument

-A A +A
1935; Harry Stinson, sculptor; George L. Horner, architect. North end of Rainbow Rd.

This monument was erected in the mid-1930s to commemorate the 1804 meeting of Lewis and Clark with members of the Otoe and Winnebago tribes, the “council” referred to in the city's name. Figures in low relief have been cut into the front and back of two curved stone slabs, suggesting a fine line drawing.
