Methodist Episcopal Church (now First United Methodist Church)

-A A +A
now First United Methodist Church
1898. Northeast corner of E. Nebraska and Moore streets

This is a successful interpretation of the Richardsonian Romanesque accomplished in red sandstone. The corners of the entrance tower continue above the roof eaves, forming small round finials. The bands and eaves of the tower's tile roof terminate at each end in a concentric circle motif, similar in concept to the way Sullivan treated the horizontal window sill of the nearby Adams Building. The composition of the church's west street facade is especially well arranged with a low roofed arcade contained at one side by the square entrance tower and at the other by a lower round tower with a conical roof.
