Pine Lake State Park

In 1921 the citizens of Eldora, joined by the Iowa State Park Commission, purchased 236 acres of land adjoining the eastern section of the city. This was formally dedicated as Eldora Pine Creek State Park in 1926. Pine Creek itself was dammed in 1922, and eventually a series of lakes was formed within the park. Additional lands were acquired, and the park now consists of 572 acres. Within the park is a group of prehistoric conical Indian mounds and a number of rustic park structures. The first of these structures were a bath-house and a shelter constructed of the local red sandstone. A number of other structures were added in the 1930s and later.
