The Grove (Thomas Pierce House)

Thomas Pierce House

Federal in style, this square, two-and-one-halfstory brick house with front and side entrance porticoes stands prominently at a major corner. The house resembles the Moses Myers house in nearby Norfolk. The major entrance, on Grace Street, is distinguished by the portico's shallow barrel vault and two fluted Doric columns. By comparison the side entrance, which contains a fanlight, is covered by a flat-roofed portico. Brick jack arches are employed over the firststory windows, and the second-story windows have stone lintels with keystones.
