Brockway Mountain Drive

1930s. MI 26, between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor

This ten-mile scenic drive with turnouts affords spectacular views of Lake Superior, passing ships, and the rugged Keweenaw Peninsula. A stone wall broken by piers at lookout points runs parallel to the drive. The parkway was named for Daniel Brockway, an early pioneer and settler who was postmaster at Fort Wilkins ( KW6) in the 1840s and at Copper Harbor in 1866–1868; from 1861 to 1863, he was manager of the Phoenix Hotel in Eagle River and, from 1881 to 1892, agent of the Cliff Mine.
