“Maplewood” (Henry and Niana Davis Cottage)

-A A +A
Henry and Niana Davis Cottage
1895, Asbury W. Buckley. 8370 Holt Ave.

The large, classicized Queen Anne cottage was built for Henry and Niana Davis of Springfield, Illinois. A central gable containing a Palladian window projects from the symmetrical mass of the house. A large, classically detailed porch, with a pediment marking the location of the central entrance, sweeps around the building. The house is crowned with a hipped roof with projecting eaves and with a flat deck surrounded by an iron cresting. Ornamental shingles decorate the exterior.
