Buechner and Orth’s Beaux-Arts classical county courthouses impart an architectural presence to the communities where they are located. The Foster County Courthouse is characterized by its well-proportioned dome atop an octagonal drum pierced with pedimented round and rectangular windows and capped by a crown and ball finial. A full-height pedimented portico makes an imposing entrance. The courthouse combines courthouse administrative functions with the county jail and sheriff’s residence.
