In addition to the typical monuments and plantings, the combined Calvary and Memorial Park cemeteries include a historic gateway and a chapel. They also exemplify the design work of landscape architect and cemetery engineer Wyrick, who consulted on WPA projects nationwide from his office in Des Moines, Iowa. Though the cemetery’s layout reflects Wyrick’s widely published recommendations, the main features are associated with the WPA crews who built the entrance gates and the delightful rubble-stone chapel in a bracketed Arts and Crafts-influenced mode.
