Arthur Curtiss James built this Beaux-Arts classical library in honor of his father, D. Willis James. The building has a pedimented portico with an entablature that extends along the side walls to the rear of the building. A dome with an octagonal base and dentiled cornice crowns the low, hipped roof. Limestone is used for some of the details, columns, pilaster base caps, stringcourse, pediment, window sills, and decorative banding. Since the library relocated in 1983, the building has been maintained by the James Memorial Preservation Society as a cultural center for the arts, educational exhibitions, public forums, and meetings.
