This one-story brick house is among the more elaborate residences remaining in Austin. The remoteness of the town dissuaded most wealthy residents from constructing ostentatious dwellings; these would have been built in more accessible, established places such as San Francisco. Nevertheless, this house shows the use of contrasting materials and colors to dress up the otherwise simple exterior. The two main sections, with decorative parapets, follow the rise of the steep hill on which the house stands, supported in front by a stone retaining wall. Two large bay windows project from the front facade. A corner vestibule, lined with multipane windows and a door with side lights and transom, contains the front entrance.
