White Pine County Courthouse

The courthouse is an eclectic building with a few Italianate and classical details. The massive two-story stone structure rests on a concrete basement, from which stairs lead to a heavy porch supporting a balcony. Rusticated stone facing blocks extend over the entire surface, even on the shallow pilasters that accent the corners of the building. A bracketed cornice meets a pediment over the main entrance. During construction the county commissioners modified the design to include a single-story rectangular cupola with a copper dome and flagpole. Surrounded by mature trees, the courthouse stands on a low rise at the head of a park in the center of Ely.
