Located near the old Central Pacific Railroad, the 3-R Building, erected to store freight, is one of the largest in downtown Winnemucca. A large gambrel roof was added around 1920 to the two-story, poured-in-place concrete building, giving it the appearance of a giant barn. Large diagonal brackets line the gambrel eaves. Along Melarkey Street, two entrances covered by gable roofs on brackets lead into the first floor. After the alterations, the building was used as a parking garage. Since the 1980s, it has functioned as an office building—an interesting case of adaptive reuse twice over. The owner named it the 3-R Building after his three sons, whose names begin with that letter.
