Main Street runs along the south side of the tracks for several blocks, eventually becoming a rural county road. Though many buildings have disappeared or have been unsympathetically altered, the block between 6th and 7th streets retains some of its former character and obvious charm. Most of the buildings were constructed in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Typical of the buildings along the tracks is the Colonial Hotel (1911), 609 Main Street, which continues in operation as a rooming house. Stucco now covers its brick walls, and later alterations have obliterated the first floor. The Overland Bar and Cafe (c. 1900), which was destroyed by fire in 1998, had the most architecturally elaborate facade on the block, with a pedimented parapet and pilaster strips.
