Designed, built, and preached in by its initial minister, this church was erected a dozen years after its predominantly African American congregation was established in East Galax. The nave-plan church, five bays deep, is eye-catching with its exterior veneer of local field and river stone. A fellowship hall occupies the raised basement and a tall flight of stairs rises to the arched recessed entrance. The entrance is incorporated into the square centered tower, which is surmounted by an octagonal belfry and steeple. Lining the side walls are paired metal-casement windows with quoin-like concrete-block surrounds.
