This is the sole survivor of at least six important domestic commissions on the square by Furness's various offices. Despite the shift to limestone from his heretofore customary red brick, this small house betrays its authorship in the quirky railing of bird feet and wings (the torsos presumably having been eaten by the occupants). Other elements in the Furness manner are the overscaled voussoirs of the third-floor arch, suspended above a luxuriant panel of carved ivy, and the oddly contorted classical references of the cornice.
