This five-bay, two-story, center-chimney Federal house is interesting for an unusually commanding entrance. A broad door with the familiar Federal treatment of fanlights and side lights (its leading probably early twentieth century) is surrounded by a wide frame with provincial carpentered ornament applied both to pilaster panels and to the spandrel intervals between frame and fan. The eyecatcher is the scroll-cut, silhouetted embellishment of the spandrel areas. Plants? Plumes? Shells? Fragmented sunbursts? Hard to tell. It's the exuberance that counts.
