Greene House (Hilltop Cottage)
This is one of several suburban villas built in the late 1860s and early 1870s on ample lots away from the Post Road, both here and just north, across the Warwick city line. The form hearkens back to the Downingesque cottages of the 1840s and 1850s, but the profusion of detail—elaborate bargeboards, exposed pseudoframing—link it to the cottage orné, then at the height of its popularity for suburban and resort dwellings.
