The ocean bluff, with nearby Purgatory Chasm, a terrifying slot in the cliff approximately 10 feet wide and 120 feet long, its sheer walls dropping 50 feet down to water, also provides the outlook for this forcefully organized shingled house with gable format encompassing the front elevation. From this an entrance shelter protecting a steep flight of stairs projects boldly, its undulant roof and latticing creating a vaguely Oriental aura. Number 595 Tuckerman, once its carriage house, is now a residence.
