Granite Theater (Christian Church)

This Greek Revival church is set well back against a slope with flanking stairs rising between the outermost columns to a landing under the portico, then another flight of stairs at right angles under the portico, to reach the raised entrance porch between them. The wider interval between the columns at either end of the portico may be necessary to contain the stairs; but the different intervals between columns may also be a carryover from the arrangement typical for domestic porches, where the center two columns come close together to frame the entrance, while the flanking columns pull apart to give a better view from rockers and hammocks.
