This Greek Revival house is an interesting example of the marriage of vernacular form and pattern-book ornament. Essentially a brick Classic Cottage, it has a full Doric entablature with triglyphs at the eaves, and a recessed full-front porch with six Doric columns. Among the many variations in the Classic Cottage form in Vermont, this house is unique with its hipped roof and recessed Doric porch, but it seems quite at home among the Greek Revival variations of the Bennington/New York region, an echo of grander buildings in nearby North Bennington and Bennington villages.
