Glenville State College

The confined hillside campus of Glenville State College lies north and east of the courthouse. Founded in 1872 as one of the state's normal schools, the institution opened the next year. In 1885 a brick building replaced the first structure, and it now forms the nucleus of Old Main. H. Rus Warne of Charleston and T. T. Sansbury of Parkersburg designed additional buildings for the college in the early twentieth century. Sansbury's 1923 women's dormitory established a Georgian Revival theme, which prevailed for several decades.
