Early 20th century

This pleasant residential block contains a number of Queen Anne frame houses, many of them originally identical, and two earlytwentieth-century churches. First Presbyterian is faced with brick, while Christ Episcopal is faced with quarry-faced sandstone. Both churches are Neo-Gothic, both are elevated over raised basements, both have square towers terminating in louvered belfries, and both have facades centered with broad, arched windows. With so many similarities, it is not surprising that Clarksburg architect Albert Breternitz designed them both. The Presbyterian church dates from 1915; the Episcopal, from 1919.
