A fine residential district occupies the bluffs looking north onto the Arkansas River. It includes three National Register districts (Adams Avenue, Argyle Avenue, and Pitkin Place) and some notable public buildings. From the 1st Street–Union Avenue exit off I-25, Union Avenue leads first to the railroad depot district, then continues south across the river to the residential area, where it becomes Broadway, the area's main street, with a well-preserved Standard Station (northwest corner of Broadway and Evans) and a fire station, Hose Company No. 3 (116 Broadway), now converted to a firefighters' museum.
