The town and ski area of Winter Park (1939, 9,110 feet), the largest and fastest-growing community in the county, began as a construction camp for the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel. Reborn as a ski area, it has boomed since the 1950s, becoming a sophisticated resort with variations of Mineshaft Modern architecture, such as Portal Place and Chalet Blanc.
