Grundy Center, just south of Blackhawk Creek, was first settled in 1855. In the following year the county was organized and Grundy Center became the county seat. The terrain in this section was described by Andreas as “high rolling prairie,” 10and it has long been noted that Grundy center is “surrounded by wonderfully rich farming country.” 11In the late nineteenth century it was connected to the Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.
