Texas Department of Public Safety Building (DPS)
This state office building is the finest of a set of buildings along N. Lamar Boulevard built after World War II. The modern design of the DPS Building became a standard for office buildings of the DPS and the Texas Highway Department. Other buildings in the vicinity include the State Commission for the Blind (1986, Black Atkinson Vernooy) at 4800 N. Lamar Boulevard and All Faiths Chapel (1969) at the Austin State Hospital at 4110 Guadalupe Street.
