The house brought Prairie School modernity to Brownsville at a late date. Built for a Mexican retail merchant, the Prairie influence came from Holliday's experience in El Paso working under Henry Trost, an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright. The model for this house can be traced to the Wright design of 1907 known as “Fireproof House for $5,000.” The massing of the two-story central block with projecting wings, cast-concrete bands, and stepped piers with urns framing living room windows, as well as the deep projecting eaves, are all Wrightian features.
