Designed by Scottish-born, Colorado Springs, Colorado, architect McLaren and Harlingen-based Bliss, this church is an outstanding example of Spanish Mediterranean in the region, with its prominent curvilinear parapet facing the street, and its perfectly sculpted domed tower forming part of the Mission-like campus. Diagonally across the street, the neo-Gothic First Presbyterian Church (1927) at W. Elizabeth Street and Palm Boulevard was designed by Kelwood Company, architect of the El Jardin Hotel ( BS3). These churches followed the trend to relocate to new suburban additions after selling their original inner-city sites for commercial development.
