Despite its location on the Houston Street highway, this substantial house has been very well maintained. Stephenson and Heldenfels managed to reproduce the sort of grand house then being built on Laurel Heights and Summit Place in San Antonio. The contrast between its solid buff brick porch piers and walls and its equally solid white-painted wood trim, the rich heaviness of its green-shingled roof, and the extravagant cantilevers of the paired wooden brackets that project the roof eaves over a central, second-floor deck above the front porch materially embody an expression of South Texas wealth and domestic style of the 1910 era.
