One of the most noted examples of fachwerk construction in the state, the Faltin house shows just how far some German immigrant builders were willing to go in terms of the scale of masonry infill of their timber framing. Here, massive blocks of limestone are neatly fitted into the joined timber frame, now exposed in a manner that would have been unheard of at the time the house was built; its builder would have either plastered the walls or clad them with weatherboards for their protection. Three building stages are visible: a single-crib log cabin, the fachwerk addition with porch, and a fachwerk shed along the rear of both. Descendant August Faltin lives in the house (without modern conveniences) and runs the adjacent store.
