Comfort Visitor's Center (Comfort State Bank)

Now the town's visitors' center, this former bank is an excellent illustration of how to use a corner site for maximum impact. The small building is organized around the angled-corner entrance, set behind a pair of Richardsonian Romanesque arches springing from a single granite column. The large scale of the coursed limestone blocks and the round-arched windows of the facade all combine to give it a monumentality fitting for a bank. The upper-level details, including a small tower above the entrance corner and stone piers with brick infill, give the building the illusion of a second floor.
