St. Mary Church in High Hill is one of three “painted churches” in the vicinity designed by Dielmann ( PF37) and built by Frank Bohlmann. This Gothic Revival church is the most elaborately decorated in the group of recognized painted churches. Painted in 1912 by Ferdinand Stockert and Herman Kern of San Antonio, the colorful interior has exotic floral imagery on all of the ceilings and walls, and marbleized columns primarily in sky-blue, off-white, green, and ochre.
