There is a trace of picturesque nineteenth-century architecture in the massing of the Texas Maritime Museum, with its apsidal end wings and a form-fitted hipped roof that inclines downward to encompass projecting, saddlebag-like bays. The multibuilding complex incorporates the lighthouse-like Maritime Light (2001), which provides views across the bay from its observation deck. The museum's grounds lie at the edge of Rockport Harbor, overlooking Aransas Bay.
