Tennant-Hanrick House (Cottonland Castle)
1890; 1913 alterations, Roy E. Lane. 3300 Austin Ave.
This “castle” is among the city's most noted residences at its commanding site on Austin and above Franklin Avenue. The heavy, almost ponderous, appearance from the use of dark stone in Richardsonian Romanesque contributes to the house's mystique. A crenellated tower rises at one corner and adds to the effect.
