Old Fields (Moorefield Vicinity, North)

-A A +A

The first view of this level expanse of open land, just southwest of the Trough, came as a welcome sight to early settlers. In pioneer parlance, “old fields” were lands that the Indians had cleared, then abandoned. A 1737 map printed in London at Lord Fairfax's behest labeled two “Shawnee Indian Fields deserted” at this location.
