Passing motorists cannot miss this 32-foot-high, 10,000-square-foot white ellipsoid. Architect Charles Deaton, most famous for his flying saucer house in Genesee in Jefferson County (JF45), worked out the design for this in clay, then in plastic, before doing the architectural drawings. Steel bars support the 8-inch-thick concrete shell, which Deaton described as a “strictly nonrepresentational form.” This marvel is set in a park along Dry Gulch.
