John Frazer converted a house built by Charles Washington, the president's younger brother, into the Golden Eagle tavern in 1792. The APVA acquired the structure in 1907 and restored it under the name of the Rising Sun Tavern on the basis of a sign; however, recent research indicates that the Rising Sun was located elsewhere in town. The long porch is a reconstruction, the result of recent archaeology.
