Walker Ranch Historic District

Ruins of fourteen slab, log, hewn log, and frame buildings in what is now a Boulder County Park of 2,566 acres reflect the organization and vernacular construction typical of pioneer ranches. In 1882 James Walker patented the original 160 acres where he had long been squatting and had built a hewn log cabin (c. 1869) and live-stock barn (1880). Later he built a house (1881), wagon barn (1885), turkey house (c. 1885), and, at a safe distance, a “gas house” (1914) for storing the family's first automobile. Ruins also include a sawmill, the Langridge Cyanide Mill, and Arapaho Indian sites.
