Built for a German American congregation formed in 1875, this pretty, white frame church has steeply pitched gables inset with small rose windows on its two principal facades. Two square towers have pyramid-shaped steeples supported on brackets; the larger tower anchors the church to its corner site.
Opposite the church at 502 Olivier Street, the three-story former Holy Name of Mary School (1924, Alexander W. Norman), a handsome red brick Collegiate Gothic building, is now the home of the International School of Louisiana. One block away at 446 Vallette Street, the former Rosetree (formerly the Algy) Theater (1930s), an Art Deco movie house, has been converted into an art glass studio and gallery.
