Nyland Collaborative Community

With 42 houses on 43 acres this was the largest cooperative community in the United States when built. Cooperative member and resident Ronald Rinker, of the prominent Denver architecture firm, spearheaded communal planning. The Danish-inspired plan limits parking to the periphery with pedestrian-only approaches to homes. Members take turns doing the cooking for the entire community in the 7,000-square-foot community house. Despite frequent meetings the community cannot always reach consensus; diverse color schemes reflect one area of disagreement.
