Built as one of ten agricultural high schools authorized by the state legislature, the Bennett School never served that purpose because of space limitations. Instead it was used as a primary school for years. The daunting portico with six giant-order Corinthian columns gives it the usual “Southern Colonial” appearance, but the red sandstone base is more Richardsonian. The structure has stood empty for a number of years and its future is uncertain.
