Santa Fe Railroad Passenger Station

The Santa Fe extended its line to Plainview in 1906 and constructed a wooden structure on this site in 1907. It was replaced by this red brick station in a variant of the Mission/Craftsman corporate style and is the last surviving of four depots that once served Plain-view along these tracks. Enclosed waiting rooms are on each side of the central, front-gabled bay, and an unusual open-air, arcaded waiting area extends the station length to the west, with freight bays to the east. Capped in contrasting white stone, parapets are stepped and sloping rather than curved. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe still uses the facility for freight.
