George R. Howard House

1848, James Bunda, builder; later additions. 1011 N. Perry St.

This Greek Revival house was built on a forty-acre farm at the northern edge of the original town plat as an end-gabled, center-hall, single-pile plan. Additions over the years developed the house into a U-plan without modifying the simplicity and elegance of the house front, with its projecting pedimented portico on four square Doric columns. The house was acquired by the city in 1964 and is operated as a museum with period furnishings.
