Carl Philip Schwalb's home, with its unusual range of classical to Art Deco terracotta trim and fancy green roof tiles, was built as a show home for products of his Denver Terra Cotta Company. To expand his firm's palette of colors and range of textures and shapes for trim and roof tiles, Schwalb toured Europe and returned with samples and ideas. His three-story red brick house in a Georgian Revival style has parapeted gable ends incorporating paired chimney stacks. The symmetrical facade fits the center-hall plan with a sunroom on the west balanced by an open porch on the east. Among the few changes have been conversion of former third-floor servants' quarters, with their three large, fanlighted dormers, to children's bedrooms.
