William Turnbull, one of the internationally noted architects of Sea Ranch in California, designed this multi-story, stepped structure to mirror its setting by climbing a mountain valley, a solution that captured an award from Progressive Architecture. In summer its textured stucco mass is anchored by light-colored boulders in the landscaping; in winter the building seems to melt into the snow.
