Marsh, an amateur architect and professional builder, designed his own lap-sided Queen Anne home as well as the more extravagant Youmans-Carey House next door. A well-proportioned wrap-around veranda leads to a pedimented corner entry. Spool-work, Eastlake balusters, shinglework, cutout gable end trim, and a second-story balcony over the south side bay enhance this well-preserved example of Carpenter's Gothic. Its fanciful, lacy nature belies its history as the county pest house during the 1918 influenza epidemic. Elegantly restored, it is a splendid picture in sedate gray and white paint.
